Alessandro Vincentelli is a curator and writer living in Northumberland, UK and is currently Curator of Exhibitions and Research at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead. He has been at BALTIC for 6 years & curated and produced exhibitions at BALTIC and indeed elsewhere, most recently working to present Tomas Saraceno exhibition 14 Billions and the Parrworld exhibition using the photographic collections of Martin Parr. He is working towards projects with Lindsay Seers for February 2011. In 2009 he developed a solo show with Fiona Crisp, for the gallery as well as researching and curating a group show on the legacy of Charles Darwin in 2009 with the artist Mark Dion, Charles Avery, Marcus Coates and Dorothy Cross. Previous projects with artists include shows with artists Sam Taylor-Wood, Yoko Ono, Steve McQueen, Tomas Saraceno, Bob & Roberta Smith and Julian Germain. He is currently researching a project with contemporary Indian Artists for development with British Council for 2012. His 2010 projects include shows with Raqs Media Collective, a group from New Delhi and an exhibition exploring the influence of American composer and artist, John Cage with installations by Christian Marclay, Katja Strunz and Graham Gussin. Having trained at the Royal College of Art, London on the MA in Contemporary Curating, he worked as curator at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham 1997-2000. He is based in the North East since 2000 and has also worked in two other roles, including developing a photography initiative and publishing enterprise; photoNORTH during the period 2003-2005.
